A Little R & R

Wahoo!!!! I have successfully up loaded two new web pages to my web site http://how-to-catch-fish.com/wintertime-blues.html and http://how-to-catch-fish.com/largemouth-bass.html

The Site Build It! Guide suggested I change my title to agree with my first meta special key words.

To celebrate this mile stone, I went to visit my friends Jim and Barbara Yoder. The Yoders own the Circle L RV Park in Arroyo City. The Circle L has 300 feet of water front on the south bank of the Arroyo Colorado.

I had an enjoyable time Carp fishing off their dock in the company of some really nice Winter Texans. These Walleye and Flounder fishermen know how to get the job done.

I filleted 10 Carp to use as cut bait for Red Snappers.

Moving Right Along

Last evening I attended a webinar as an Alex Jeffreys student. The webinar focused on “Traffic Tornados”. My new challenge is to produce an introduction video for my blog.

Also, I have just completed 2 more articles for my www.how-to-catch-fish.com web site. The titles are “Wintertime Blues” and “How to Catch Largemouth Bass in Highland Lakes”.

I have some old photos I need to convert to .jpg. Once I have that completed then I will publish both articles on my web site.

Oh, I do have some free internet marketing stuff here on my blog. It’s free valuable information where Alex Jeffreys reveals secret List Building formulas that will fast track you to a lifetime of online riches. It is so easy even a charter captain can do it.

You can get this free information by clicking on “List Building with Alex Jeffreys” in my Blogroll list.

As soon as I figure out how to make an opt-in form for this page I’ll do that.

I welcome anyone with suggestions.

I also opened an account at http://twitter.com/ last night. My user name is CaptainHall.

Let me know what you are doing.

Guess what? The Red Snapper get a reprieve again today. We have 5 ft seas with 5 second intervals.

So, I am going to a Walleye fish fry at a RV park in Rio Hondo with a bunch of good old Winter Texans.

Hi, I’m Back

I have been working on getting my first HTML web page “Why a Fishing Kite” written and now on line at http://www.how-to-catch-fish.com/fishing-kite.html .

Note: I am using a Site Build It service that is truly a one stop shop. You get a registered Domain name, Hosting service, and on-line step x step instructions on how to build your web site from thought to finish. They have focused forums for help and ideas. Check it out Click the blinking Clock.

This blog I am trying to build on my own and am having a lot of challenges so I went searching and found “Site Build It!”

For now I will be focused on building my web site, and then I will come back here and work on my blog’s look and feel.

Where am I going with my web site?

I have noticed there are a lot of fishing video sites and fishing web sites. Some of these are high quality but after watching and reading these sites I found I learned very little but was entertained. I left these web sites feeling hungry for answers to questions like, “How, what and when did they do that?”

So, when it comes down to where the rubber meets the road a lot of the details are missing on these sites.

I will be giving you details on http://www.how-to-catch-fish.com/  because I have been there and done that.

There are a lot of techniques and methods to catching fish. Believe me I have not tried them all. I will just cover the ones that I use and know work.

I can not always explain why a lot of stuff that happens in nature happens but I can tell you it does happen.

The seas are 5-6 feet today so the Red Snapper can rest easy today. Monday and Tuesday of next week will be another story.

Houston I have Data

I have now recorded my first day of Google Analytics data on my blog.

I had to move my Google analytics code from just before </body> to just after <body>.

The procedure I used:  From my Word Press Dashboard- I scrolled down the left column to the “Appearance” section. I selected “Editor”.

Then from the right column I selected “Header (header.php)”

Scroll down my Header (header.php) display until I found <body>

I moved my cursor just after <body> and pasted my Google Analytics code

Then I selected “Footer (footer.php)” Scrolled to just before </body> and deleted my Google analytics code I had place in there 2 days ago.

Then I clicked “Update File”

Waited 24 hours and found data in my Google Analytics report for the first time.

I took 5 guys out to sea to catch some Red Snapper. The fish were home but were not in a feeding mode. We only caught 11 keepers to 10 lbs. Seas were 1-3 feet.

Snag with Google Analytics

After my 24 hour wait, there was not a Google stat on my blog. When I went to “View” and clicked on “Source”, ah, the code was missing.

Here again I did a little surfing and this is what I found:

http://www.mahalo.com/How_to_Use_Google_Analytics_for_Beginners

This was a super find. I followed the steps given and all appeared to be well.

When I loaded my blog again, went to “View” and clicked “Source”. I then scrolled to the bottom of the page. Everything looked ok but down on the very bottom on the display after “Done” it had an error message.

Luckily I had saved two versions of my Google Analytics code. I compared them and found I had added a lot of extra code. I deleted the extra code and preformed an update.

NOW, everything is ok.

Lesson learned – always copy the original code before you make any changes. That way at least you can restore to original code.

The Red Snapper get another days rest with 8.4 ft. seas. Instead of fishing my clients went to Mexico shopping.

I Added Google Analytics

Today I added Google Analytics to this page in anticipation of getting a visitor.

So, if you have been lurking on this page, please leave your comments or questions.

I hope to make this blog a hub to all of my web sites.

My oldest web site is www.geauxdeep.com was created to help advertise my charter business.

My newest site www.make-internet-marketing-work.com , I am building as a student project with Alex Jeffreys. Alex is mentoring me on how to set up a business system for internet marketing.

What I am learning from Alex and my fellow students I am applying to what I love the most.  I  consider myself a subject matter expert on  fishing, www.how-to-catch-fish.com.  This site will be a place where folks can come and share their favorite fish story, ask questions and learn from the experiences of others.

I remember what Alex said. There are three types of people:

  1. People that make mistakes and never learn.
  2. People that learn from their mistakes.
  3. People that learn from other people’s mistakes.

When we share our experiences with others we can learn from their mistakes and they can learn from ours.

The Red Snapper got another break today. I had to cancel a charter today because seas were at 6.5 feet with a period of 6 seconds.

Eureka !  My PPP is ON-Line

I have to share with the Famous 500 (Alex’s Jeffreys Students) how I learned to set up FileZilla.

FileZilla is free software that allows you to upload your web pages from your computer (client) to the Internet (your host server).

After some web surfing I found this site:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VROIq95utWs

I completely did a FileZilla uninstall. Then I did a new install.

I followed the video with a stop and go procedure and duplicated every step.

The only hitch was getting the filename correct in the top right box.

This is Christmas day so I am grilling Red Snapper today.

PPP Status

I worked on my PPP for a couple of hours. I am stopped at the FTP part and working with FileZilla.

I am reading the guide that was downloaded with it.

The first achievement will be to get a connection to my FTP server.

Next comes navigating on the server and finally transferring files.

Hopefully my PPP will be up and running soon.

The Red Snappers got a break today the seas were around 12 feet.

Alex  Jeffreys’

6 ½ Hour Brainstorming Session

I lurked for 6 ½ hours yesterday afternoon and listen to a world wide group of Alex Jeffreys’ students critique each other’s Blog.

The number one fault seems to be the calendar block on the front page. No one could offer a good reason why it was there and what value it added to that person’s blog. So, remove it!

I may have learned why my blog content was not transferring when uploading from WordPress to my HostGator account.

Several of the other folks seem to have a similar problem. It appears when using the Windows Internet Explorer browser the content would get lost.

If the Firefox browser was used the content came up and was not lost.

The next item high on the list was the ‘Header” on the blogs. It was the opinion of the group Headers should be of simple design. The simple design keeps your blog visitor focused on the blog content and not the Header.

The next item was the color of the blog’s back ground.   The group felt that black print on a white back ground made for an easier read.

Our next session with Alex will be in January 2009.

That gives me time to tweak my blog, include some of Alex’s traffic pulling techniques,  work on my PPP, and catch a few more Red Snapper.
